Full Itinerary: Yogyakarta – Bromo – Ijen – Ketapang Port (3 Days, 2 Nights)
We’ll pick you up at your hotel between 7:00 and 8:00 am, right after breakfast. The drive to Probolinggo takes about 7 hours. Once we arrive at your hotel in the Cemoro Indah or Sukapura area, you’ll have the rest of the day to relax and get ready for an early morning tomorrow.
If you want to visit Madakaripura Waterfall, we’ll need to leave Yogyakarta by 7 am. That way, we’ll reach the waterfall before 2 pm, even with a stop for lunch. Madakaripura is the tallest waterfall in Java, and honestly, it’s stunning. From the parking lot, a local guide will take you on a short motorbike ride, then you’ll hike about 1 to 1.5 kilometers. Plan for the whole experience to take around 1.5 to 2 hours. Afterward, we’ll head straight to your hotel so you can rest up.
Early start today! Your jeep will be ready at the hotel around 2:00 to 3:00 am, depending on your location. We’ll head out to the Bromo area to catch sunrise. If the sky’s clear, the first sunlight sneaking between the mountains at King Kong Hill is unforgettable. The walk up to the viewpoint takes about 15 minutes, and it can get pretty cold up there—sometimes down to 10°C. There’s a small “warung” (local stall) at the base where you can warm up with some coffee or tea before the show.
After sunrise, the jeep will take us down to the sea of sand at Bromo. From there, you can either walk or hop on a horse to the stairs that climb up to the crater’s edge. Once you’ve taken in the view from the top, we’ll snap some photos with Batok Hill as the backdrop, then head back to the hotel for a shower and breakfast. When you’re ready, we’ll continue the journey to Bondowoso.
Set your alarm—today starts early. We’ll leave the hotel at midnight and drive about 2 hours to the Ijen crater. At the base, you’ll meet your local guide, who’ll keep you safe on the climb and fill you in on the famous blue fire and the area’s history.
The hike to the top takes about 2 hours. If the conditions are right, we’ll head down to the edge of the lake to see the blue fire up close. Then, as the sun rises, you’ll get an incredible view of the green sulfur lake—definitely a highlight. After soaking it all in, we’ll hike back down, and you’ll have time for breakfast before we set off for Ketapang Port. From there, you’ll take the ferry across to Gilimanuk Port in Bali.
